8.) "The Highway Man"

Equipment:

  • One decoy in full bite suit.
  • Pedestrian with shoulder purse
  • One bicycle

"The Highway Man" Scenario:

  • You witness a young punk with a bicycle watching a woman. The woman has just cashed her paycheck and is putting the cash in her shoulder bag.
  • As the punk, now on his bicycle, rides by her, he grabs her purse and takes off on his bicycle
  • You are about 40 yards away with your K-9 and you call out for the punk to stop or you will send you dog.
  • He does not stop. Instead he makes a crude gesture in your direction.
  • You send your K-9 to stop the punk.
  • The K-9 must not bite the woman who was robbed as he is going after the bicyclist.
  • The K-9 must apprehend the punk trying to escape on the bicycle.
  • When the K-9 has the punk off his bicycle and the punk is attempting to fight with the dog, you reach the scene.
  • You must command your dog to release the punk and to guard him while you search the punk for weapons and then you go to retrieve the woman's purse.
  • As soon as you turn toward the purse, the punk makes another attempt to escape by running off.
  • Your K-9 guarding him must quickly stop him as he attempts to flee.
  • When your dog has again apprehenden him, you tell the punk to "freeze up" and you will call off the dog.
  • When the punk does, you command your K-9 to release. When the K-9 releases the exercise ends and you can heel your K-9 away.
