1.) "Valley of Death"

Equipment:

  • Four decoys, preferably all in bitesuits

  • Four hiding places (minimum)

  • Two non-threating hand held items (large cooking pan, flower pot, boombox, book, small folding umbrella, etc.)

  • Two high-threat hand held items (baseball bat, gun, crow bar, large chain, piece of pipe, etc.)

"Valley of Death" Scenario:

  • K-9 Team waits at starting position.
  • At judge's signal, they begin to heel through an area designated as the "Valley of Death" that has four hiding places spaced out along the way.

  • The judge has instructed each decoy to either be a real threat or a non-threat as the K-9 team passes them.

  • As the handler passes through the "Valley of Death", he must decide which decoy is a real threat, and which isn't.

  • The handler must control his K-9 when the "threat" turns out to be nothing and send his K-9 to defend him only when the threat is real.

  • At judges signal, first decoy appears, either a threat or non-threat. He handler must react accordingly.

  • The second decoy then appears a short time after the first and again the handler must decide in the appropriate manor.

  • The third decoy and then the fourth decoy repeat the threat or non-threat process as they were directed by the judge.

  • Order of threat / non-threat decoys are left to the judge's discretion.
  • Handler must not loose control of his K-9 partner or make a mistake by sending his K-9 on a non-threat decoy.

  • As with any man work scenario, with any bite the K-9 must release on command and guard the suspect while the handler searches the suspect.

  • There may be no bites, a recall thrown in, or even a real threat bite on all four decoys. Be ready for all possibilities.
